I bought two boxes of Christmas cards and wrote only "Merry Christmas" on the envelope. I sat in the parking lot out of a store .in my truck, and waited. When I saw people who needed encouragement in spirit ,I'd wait for them to go into the store and then I'd walk over to their car ,put a Christmas card under the windshield wiper(雨刷) and then jump back into my truck.
I did this a handful of times in a few minutes and then quietly sat in my truck and waited to see their reactions. It was a great way to stay nameless and still be there to see the end result . I gave out forty cards that afternoon.
There are a few reactions that made them all worth more than I ever could have imagined. My favorite was a young woman who got out of an older car with three very Young children and walked into the bank. I put twenty dollars in her card and wrote, "Moms are great! " As she read it.l could see she was starting to cry. Then her kids started to cry. I could hear all four of them crying right in front of me. Now I'm a 44-year-old grown man and I don't get choked up (感动得说不出话) easily, But when I heard her try comfort her kids by telling them she was crying happy tears ,I cried like a little baby.
That was the last one I did that day. I can't think of anything more rewarding. I hope this works. but there is just no way any of those people got more out of those Christmas cards than me. It made me feel so good about myself as if I had actually made a difference. Best feeling in the world!
